Overview:

This final unit introduces students to exponential functions. It explains how to graph an exponential function and how to find the domain and range. Students will continue to perform various transformations including translations, stretches, shrinks, reflections, and rotations of exponential functions. Exponential functions are useful because they describe many real-world situations, including growth and decay models found within both economics and in physics. 

 

Like many types of functions, the exponential function has an inverse. This inverse is called the logarithmic function. Students will evaluate logarithms and learn how to graph logarithmic functions. We will also address the domain and range of a logarithmic function, which are inverses of those of its corresponding exponential function. Students will learn about the properties of logarithms which are helpful in evaluating logarithmic expressions by hand or using a calculator. They are also useful in simplifying and solving equations containing logarithms or exponents, which is the focus of the final section.
